During my house renovation adventure I’ve been having trouble staying on top of my health and eating habits. Like most of us, we usually gravitate towards fast, easy and relatively cheap when it comes to our food and groceries. Now more than ever has it been more of a challenge for me to plan and prepare meals when there are so many other things on my mind. However I have accepted the challenge and am enjoying great healthy clean food during all of the work that’s going on.
So many things you have to consider when doing reno’s. Where will I eat? What will I eat? How will I cook? What about washing the dishes? And so on.. Unless you are planning to bring all the dishes in the shower with you to wash, it will take some thought and preparation so things run a whole lot smoother than if you didn’t.
Here are some helpful things I did to maintain my healthy eating regimen during renovations!
- I recently purchased a slow cooker just in time for my kitchen renovation. Let me tell you, it was one of the smartest things I did. I am now enjoying healthy… (ok they weren’t always healthy but they were delicious) food all week while only cooking once. There are endless recipes to make in the crock pot.
- Freezing a good chunk of meals prior to renovations is an easy way to have full cooked meals ready to go. Either stick them in the microwave or if you’re looking out for your health, heating them up in the oven.
- Eating out may be your only option on occasion. Just be sure you know what you’re getting when you do. Or you can buy pre made meals at the local grocer
- This also may be a great opportunity for a lot more BBQ’s. Use disposable plates and utensils for the week to save yourself from dish duty. You may be surprised at how much food you can cook on the outdoor grill… pretty much everything!
Those are just a few ideas of how I am keeping up with my meals amidst all the chaos.
